PORVORIM: The traffic on both the Mandovi bridges were moving smoothly from Porvorim on Thursday morning since traffic police were posted in different areas. However, an accident on the bridge kept the police on their toes and traffic had to be diverted.
The traffic police had a tough time controlling traffic on the bridge after an accident which was reported at 10.30 am. Traffic had to be streamlined and hence it was diverted from the new Mandovi Bridge to the old Mandovi Bridge.
Even the convoy of the Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar was diverted by the police at around 10.50 am. The Chief Minister was to visit the city to inaugurate the Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana (government health scheme) at Menezes Braganza hall.
The road on the old bridge which is mostly used by heavy vehicles is bumpy thus making the light vehicles to travel at snail’s pace. There was no space for the Chief Minister’s convoy to sneak in and attend the function on time.
At around 3.30 pm there was another road accident wherein a car rammed into another vehicle. The matter ended in a compromise and the police who was present had no role to play in it.
