The additional district and session court judge at Panaji Pramod Kamat convicted Ravi Rathod, a Karnataka native and sentenced him to undergo five years imprisonment for murdering his wife in 2012.
The court has been lenient keeping in view the health condition of the accused who is suffering from HIV.
According to the prosecution, Ravi Rathod and his wife Geeta were residing in a rental house at Saliswada, Parra. Ravi had strained relationship with his wife and on the night of July 25, 2012 at around 11.30 p.m he picked up a quarrel with his wife and in a rage of anger cut her neck with sharp weapon thereby killing her.
The neighbours tried to apprehend Ravi but since he had a knife in his hand their attempts went in vain.
The brother-in-law of the accused Ravikant Chawan had lodged complainant with the Mapusa police against Ravi.
PI Tushar Vernekar along with his staff conducted the investigation and arrested Ravi at Afrzalpur, Gulbarga in Karnataka and on September 3, 2012 the case was charge sheeted before the court.
The court relied upon the witness of the four-year-old daughter of the accused who had seen her father killing her mother.
Advocate Waman Pandit argued on behalf of the accused while Advocate Ladislau Fernandes appeared for the state.
