Goa hails canonisation of Mother Teresa

People of Goa, especially Catholics, hailed the canonisation of Mother Teresa in Vatican City by Pope Francis on Sunday.
The celebrations were marked with special masses held in the churches of Goa.
In Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church, Panaji, a special mass was celebrated by parish priest Fr Cleto Pereira.
Earlier, nuns of the Missionaries of Charity took out a procession and garlanded a portrait of Mother Teresa kept at the altar of the church.
Goa’s first chapel dedicated to St Teresa of Kolkata was inaugurated on Sunday at Chorao at the hands of Fr Gabriel Coutinho, former parish priest of the village and present parish priest of St Andrew Church, Vasco.
The inauguration function was followed by holy mass, which was attended by a large number of villagers.
The chapel is the result of the initiative by the Chorao communidade and local parish committees besides villagers cutting across religions who helped and contributed in various ways.
Salcete taluka rejoiced the canonisation of Mother Teresa with thousands of the faithful joining in the celebrations as churches welcomed the new saint.
Movies on the life of Mother Teresa were screened and live screening of the canonisation ceremony was held.
Special masses in churches across Salcete echoed the life of the new saint.
