PANAJI: Results of the Higher Secondary School Certificate examination 2016 declared by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) on Thursday touched all-time high percentage of 90.10, surpassing by 2 per cent the previous record of 88.10 per cent as registered at the HSSC examination conducted during summer of 2015.
Observing that the impressive result was the outcome of proactive efforts by the higher secondary schools, including conducting summer classes for students before their reopening for the new academic year, the Goa Board chairperson J R Rebello said that students answering examination through all four streams performed well, with commerce registering 91.16 per cent result, science placed with 89.90 per cent, vocational steam recording 89.46 per cent result, while arts standing at 89.35 per cent.
“Out of the total 15,410 students – 7,382 boys and 8,028 girls – who appeared for the HSSC examination, 87.68 per cent boys cleared the examination, while 92.43 per cent girls passed,” he added, pointing out that the students in the SC, ST and OBC categories too displayed good performance.
The number of candidates appearing under the exempted category, for the particular examination was 406, of which 164 passed, thus registering a passing percentage of 40.39, in this category.
Speaking further, Rebello said that altogether 3,119 students availed the facility of the sports merit marks at this examination, of which only 190 passed making use of these marks, which constituted 1.2 per cent of the passing students.
“Altogether 25 higher secondary schools have found a place in the 95 per cent and above bracket,” he stated, adding that these schools, some of which had 500 and more students studying in class XII, have registered 95 per cent result or more. The Ramanata Crishna Pai Raikar School of Agriculture, Savoi-Verem registered 100 per cent result, with all its students securing first class in the vocational stream.
It was also informed that from this year, the Goa Board with an objective to bring in transparency in paper correction, has introduced scanned copies, revaluation and verification in absentia as answer book rechecking methods, with May 20, May 27 and May 13 as the last dates for availing these facilities, respectively. The students, on payment of Rs 50 per answer book, can receive the scanned copy, get revaluation done or avail verification in absentia. The facilities however would not be available for the third party.
The Goa Board chairman further said that the supplementary examination for students, who have failed in one or two subjects at the HSSC examination 2016, would be conducted from June 8 onwards for around six to eight days. “The result of the supplementary examination would be announced faster, this year,” he revealed, noting that the supplementary examination facility is also available for students appearing for class IX, SSC and class XI examinations.
The HSSC examination 2016 was held between February 29 and March 22, earlier this year, in altogether 16 centres throughout the state.
The secretary of the Goa Board Shivkumar Jangam and other Board officials were also present during the announcement of the result.
