Union Minister for Environment and Climate Change Anil Dave on Friday said BRICS nations have unanimously resolved to address issues especially concerning environment by mutual co-operation.
Addressing the media after the day-long meeting between environment ministers of BRICS countries, Dave said that BRICS has a major role to play and the member countries have agreed to sign MoU for better collaboration in the fields of air quality management, water and waste management and have also agreed to share technology.
Dave said the ministers will meet again in Morocco in November this year to take forward the discussions adding the BRICS nations are committed by the 2030 goals. The Union minister further stated that India and China discussed concerns over the depleting ice cap of the Himalayas and had elaborate discussion in a bid to find solution to the concern of global warming through sustainable development.
The Union minister further said that the BRICS nations have also resolved to preserve and protect all the water bodies adding that India needs to do a bit more as the rivers are dying, ponds and lakes are polluted but “we will take up protection of water bodies so that everybody can be provided with safe drinking water.”
He said that the BRICS countries have resolved to set up a platform for innovations, knowledge sharing and capacity building including a common website network of technical institutions and undertake joint projects in areas of mutual interest.
