PANAJI: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has called upon farmers to undertake orchard cultivation by availing benefits of various schemes being implemented by the Directorate of Agriculture to promote farming in the state.
He said that the orchard plantation would give rich yield to supplement their livelihood, thus making them self reliant. Parsekar was speaking as chief guest at a function organised by the Directorate of Agriculture at village panchayat of Palyem in Pernem on Thursday. The theme of the function was ‘Nutritional Garden Scheme.’
Grafts of mango, chikkoo and saplings of coconut were distributed to the farmers. Parsekar further said that fruits is an important ingredient in our diet which provides proteins and vitamins to keep our body healthy.
He also said that Goan fruits have great demand in the market; therefore, the farmers should take up fruit plantation.
ZAO Prasad Parab said that the distribution of fruit plants is done under the Nutritional Garden Scheme implemented by the government to enable the people to plant fruit-bearing plants in their garden and that fruit plantation around will help to maintain the environment for healthy living.
Sarpanch Dayanand Parab welcomed the guests.
Later Parsekar paid visit to Harmal, Mandrem and Morjim where he also distributed fruit-bearing plants, saplings of coconut to the people in the presence of local sarpanch, deputy sarpanch and all other ward members.
