PANAJI: Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari on Thursday held discussions with the Bharatiya Janata Party legislators, to take stock of the political situation in the state.
The legislators also reacted positively to the BJP-Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party alliance for the forthcoming state assembly election.
Gadkari has been appointed as the state in-charge of the BJP for the 2017 state assembly election.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, who was present during the discussion, said that Gadkari reviewed the political situation in Goa, and sought views from the BJP MLAs as regards the same.
“Gadkari also asked opinion of the MLAs about continuing the BJP-MGP alliance for the forthcoming state assembly election and got favourable response,” he informed, pointing out that the BJP-MGP alliance talks would be held next month with the MGP leaders.
Deputy Chief Minister, Francis D’Souza, who also attended the meeting, said that this was the first meeting addressed by Gadkari since he was entrusted with the responsibility of guiding the state BJP unit for the 2017 state assembly election.
“Gadkari therefore sought feedback from the party legislators,” D’Souza stated, adding that Gadkari also tried to find out the developmental schemes being run in Goa, as also suggested that the state government should try to take election-related benefits from the central financial assistance of Rs 20,000 crore to be spent on the infrastructure development of Goa.
Furthermore, Gadkari interacted with state BJP president Vinay Tendulkar, as regards organisational matters of the party. He inquired about the party membership in Goa, and the response of the people to the government schemes.
Gadkari also held meeting with the senior MGP leader, Ramakrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar.
A meeting of the block-level office-bearers of the BJP will be addressed by Gadkari on September 23 in the city.
