MARGAO: President of Congress minority cell Urfan Mulla, on Saturday, demanded with the state government to constitute a minority commission in the state and lay emphasis on the minority finance development corporation that was started by the erstwhile Congress government sanctioning Rs 5 crore.
Addressing the media on the occasion of declaring the newly-elected block-level minority leaders in four constituencies – Velim, Margao, Fatorda and Shiroda, Mulla said that if the government does not pay heed to the demand, he would agitate and observe a hunger strike on May 17 with the minority community leaders. “This will be done to draw the attention of the government to lay emphasis on the constituted minority finance corporation,” he added.
He alleged that the BJP government had promised kabrastan, Haj House, but “did nothing in these four years.” “The time has come to protest,” he maintained.
Mulla condemned the attack on traditional fishermen. “In my opinion, the Minister Alina Saldanha should step down in protest. It was an insult to his husband late Matanhy Saldanha who was always with the ramponkars,” he added.
