Issues regarding bad roads, electricity poles, garbage were discussed during the gram sabha of Thivim panchayat on Sunday.

The villagers brought to the notice of panchayat that the condition of highway was turning bad each passing day. They said the stretch between Acoi to Karaswada junction and from Thivim church to old post office has huge potholes and motorists find it difficult to commute on these stretches.

In this view, the villagers demanded that the panchayat should ask the PWD highway section to take up repair work on priority basis.

Assuring the gram sabha, sarpanch Shivdas Kambli said that “we will write to the executive engineer of PWD (roads) asking them to take up repair work of the affected stretches on priority.”

The villagers also raised concern about the electricity poles which are not shifted even after the road has been widened.  In this regard, the sarpanch said, “We will also write to the power department to shift the electricity poles which pose risk to motorists.”

On garbage issue, a villager pointed out that people often instead of dumping garbage in bins prefer to dispose it of anywhere and, thereby, it becomes a nuisance and a feasting spot for stray animals.

Sarpanch said that “the state government had contracted the garbage collection task along the highway and we will write to the agency to collect the garbage every two days if not every alternate day.”

The panchayat secretary announced during the gram sabha meeting that Mission Rabies campaign would take place in Thivim from October 24 to October 27.
