Camurlim villagers have demanded to hold a special gram sabha on the issue of marking the zone for sand extraction in the presence of officials from the mines department. The gram sabha also resolved to oppose the proposed marking of zone at Vagali, Camurlim.
The gram sabha was held on Sunday at the Camurlim panchayat hall where the issue of marking zones for extraction of sand was discussed in detailed.
The villagers said, “The illegal extraction of sand is taking place rampantly during the late nights”.
Julio Noronha said, “We are not against sand extraction but it should be done under permissible limits, if not our future generation will suffer”.
Deputy sarpanch Dharmendra Parab informed the members that “the panchayat has still not received any communication from the mines department. We are not aware about any zone to be marked in the village”.
“In the regional plan a zone has been marked for sand extraction but we have still not received any communication “added Parab.
Sarpanch Kalpana Dalvi assured the members that “the panchayat will support the views expressed by the villagers”.
Nilesh Naik raised concern over the increase of migrants in the village and said, “We can see many migrants roaming in the village till late night and this could have security implications. Hence the panchayat should look into the matter”. The sarpanch assured the member that the matter will be taken up with the police.
Ramesh Naik raised the issue of doctors visiting the village. Naik said, “In the village we do not have private doctors, and at the sub health center the doctor visits the clinic once a week for only half-a-day causing a lot of inconvenience to the villagers”.
The garbage issue was raised by a few villagers who brought to the notice of the panchayat that at the housing board colony, garbage is being dumped on the road. Various issues such as damage to crops by animals, road widening works, cutting of bushes and other issues were also discussed.
