Petroleum dealers strike deferred

PANAJI: The strike called by the Consortium of Indian Petroleum Dealers (CIPD) has been deferred as the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have accepted the demands of the petroleum dealers.  CIPD’s fundamental demand was an increase in the margin earned by the dealers.

Speaking to the media in Panaji, All Goa Petrol Dealers Association (AGPDA) president Paresh Joshi informed that during the meeting of the CIPD and the representatives of the OMCs, the latter agreed to accept the basic demand of increasing the margin price offered to the dealers.

“The margin price has been increased from Rs 2 to Rs 2.13 per litre on petrol and from Rs 1.40 to Rs 1.50 per litre on diesel,” he said.

Joshi further added that the outcome of the meeting concludes that the stand of the CIPD stands vindicated. The CIPD had called for a strike across the country, citing difficulties in matching the business costs with the margin the dealers have been receiving.

The meeting which was held in Mumbai on Friday also resolved to review the commission paid to dealers every six months, vis-à-vis January and July every year.
