Attempt to sexually assault minor: Karaswada resident remanded to police custody

MAPUSA: JMFC, Mapusa has remanded Mohammad Maktar, a resident of Karaswada-Mapusa, arrested by the Mapusa police for allegedly  kidnapping and attempting to sexually assault a 5-year-old girl, to 10-day police custody.

The Mapusa police informed that the incident took place on Friday night when the girl was pestering her mother to take her to nearby temple.  “Initially, the mother refused to take her out but later agreed to take her and so she went inside the house to get something. Meanwhile, the minor girl was waiting outside.  As the mother came out, she failed to see her daughter and so called out for. Soon she enquired in the neighbourhood to know her whereabouts. She even checked at the temple but could not trace her. Later, the girl’s father also arrived, and everyone started looking out for her and then someone  heard voice of the girl. And, as they reached near a parked vehicle they found the accused Maktar forcing himself  on the girl,” informed the police.  After seeing the family members and others, the accused made an attempt to escape but was nabbed by the locals, the police added.

The accused was later handed over to the Mapusa police and the minor girl was rushed to the GMC hospital for treatment.

The police have registered offences under sections 363, 341, 354-A, 354-C, 376, 326 of the IPC, Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act and Sections 4, 8, 11, and 12 of the POSCO Act.

The police are further investigating into the case.
