A 55-year-old woman from Navelim was contacted by a person on her cell phone and after sending whatsapp messages induced her to deposit an amount of Rs 4,54,800 in the accounts of his associates on pretext of delivering her a parcel containing 15,000 pounds and other gift articles, thereby cheating her. Margao police have registered the offence however no arrests have been made so far.
According to police, Evan William developed a facebook friendship and contacted the complainant on her cell phone and sent whatsapp messages. He induced the complainant to deposit an amount of Rs 4,54,800 in the accounts of his associates on pretext of delivering her a parcel containing cash of 15,000 pounds and other gift articles. Police said that the complainant deposited the amount through her son-in-law Edgar D’Silva, wherein the accused person failed to provide the parcel.
Further the accused person with his common intention cheated the complainant. Margao town police have registered the offence under Section 420 of IPC.
