MARGAO: Putting up a united front and kicking-off the election campaign in Cuncolim constituency in the presence of AICC member and coordinator Shiwan K, Congressmen of Cuncolim constituency, on Tuesday, collectively demanded Congress party ticket to only Cuncolkar and not any ‘outsider’ in the constituency.
Congressmen Devendra Desai, Clafacio Dias, John Monteiro together joined hands to demand Congress ticket to only a Cuncolim voter. “We appeal to the Congress party to give ticket to only Cuncolim voter and not any outsider,” they demanded.
The trio alongwith AICC member Shiwan K went door-to-door campaigning and also met the shopkeepers and people. “We have started door-to-door visits to know the people’s pulse. The demands of the people will be a part of the manifesto of the party,” Shiwan K said.
When asked as to when the Congress candidate in Cuncolim would be finalised, Shiwan said it will take some time. “We have to take everybody into confidence. The party high command will take a call on it,” he added.
Interestingly, former MLA of Cuncolim Joaquim Alemao was not present for the election campaign, that kicked-off on Tuesday, even though he claimed to be a loyal soldier of the party. Politics in Cuncolim has gained momentum ever since the AAP declared Elvis Gomes as its candidate.
