The core committee on vector-borne diseases on Thursday inspected the Margao industrial estate and found drains choked with waste, discarded tubelights and discharge of waste water in open drains.
Field manager John Diniz said that “we will carry out pre-monsoon work in around 15 days,” adding, labour remains a major problem to clean the drains at regular intervals.
It was pointed that the IDC needs to coordinate closely with the lines division of the electricity department and that every department has some important role to play in the industrial estate.
The core committee had met on April 1 to take stock of things and identified key areas which needed attention including removal of discarded electrical fixtures, pipes, tyres as they are said to be potential breeding ground for mosquitoes.
During the meet, it was also decided to identify closed units and inspect them for possible breeding sites. Concerns were also raised over potential breeding sites in the form of plastic tanks, cement tanks, barrels and drums filled with water.
