VARCA
The CCTV cameras installed by Varca panchayat at key junctions, to monitor the movements of people in the village following spate of robberies, are presently in a non-functional state.
Sarpanch Tracy Fernandes informed that the CCTV cameras are currently not functioning and the panchayat is working to get them restored. She said the cameras were installed on telephone poles at the junctions; however, during the BRICS summit, the poles were removed and since then the cameras are lying in the panchayat.
She said that the panchayat is now working on alternative arrangements to get the cameras installed again at the earliest.
It may be recalled that the panchayat had installed the cameras at key junctions at Varca to keep a watch after a spate of house break-in incidents in 2014-15.
That apart, the village was also facing issues of dumping of garbage by ‘outsiders’. The villagers informed that after the CCTVs were installed, the number of robberies had reduced drastically so also it had curbed instances of garbage dumping.
