A 27-year-old pillion rider Pradip Shirodkar of Alto-Dabolim died on the spot after he came under the rear wheels of a moving water tanker at Vaddem on Thursday evening.
According to Vasco police, the accident reported at around 7 pm when the ill-fated Honda Dio Scooter was hit by a Honda Aviator scooter, while it was coming to the main road from a small passage at Vaddem.
The Honda Dio Scooter was heading towards Chicalim from Vasco. The rider of the Honda Dio Scooter who is identified as Digambar Gurav had a miraculous escape and survived the accident with minor injuries. His
pillion rider however came under the rear wheels of the water tanker. The tanker was heading towards Vasco from Chicalim.
“I lost the balance of my scooter when a Honda Aviator scooter hit me”, said Gurav. He
disclosed that the impact was such that he along with his pillion were swung on the road, resulting in the pillion being crushed under the rear wheels of a moving water tanker.
The rider of the Honda Aviator scooter has been identified as Jefrey Vincent (28) of Vaddem. A massive traffic jam was witnessed on the road leading to Vasco and Chicalim.
The Vasco fire tender was rushed to the site, following the accident. The Vasco police however conducted the panchanama and
have sent the body of the deceased for postmortem.
The deceased Shirodkar and the Gurav were both working as a loader at the Dabolim airport.
They had come to Vasco in the evening for some shopping, but while heading towards their residence, they met with an accident at Vaddem.
The Vasco police have registered an offence against the rider of the Honda Aviator scooter.
Police sub-inspector Vikas Deykar is further investigating the case, under the supervision of PI Nalasco Raposo.
