CURCHOREM
After completion of land acquisition process for construction of a mining bypass road from Caurem to Quepem, a bypass road construction from Ugem to Capxem will be taken up, said the Curchorem BJP block president Ashish Karmali.
Karmali was addressing a press conference at Curchorem BJP office on Friday. Block secretary Ashok Naik and other office bearers were also present on the occasion.
Karmali said that on an average one accident was reported in Goa when mining activities were closed. So, it is not right to stop mining activities on the pretext of accidents.
He further said that a mining corridor is a must for mining activities. The foundation stone was also laid for the construction of a bypass road. But the Government stressed on helping financially the dependents of mining and hence the bypass road could not be completed. Despite loss of crores of rupees as revenue every year, the government has managed to help the mining dependants, he said.
In 2012 when the then environment minister Jayanti Natarajan banned leasing of mines, the Supreme Court banned the mining activities. Now, due to the efforts of the BJP government, mining activities has once again started but under the supervision of traffic police.
It is not correct to say that accidents occur only due to ore transportation. The government has to consider the welfare of the common man, mining dependents and also the mine owners who make huge investments in the mining business, he added.
