Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that Goa can become first state to achieve the goal of zero new infection cases of HIV by 2025 as number of new HIV cases is decreasing for the last few years.
He was speaking at the inauguration of state-level convention specially dedicated to people with HIV /AIDS under the theme GIPA at the Institute of Menezes Braganza, Panaji recently.
Parsekar urged people to stop discrimination against people with HIV.
The Chief Minister further informed that monetary benefit of Rs 2000 per month is given to people with HIV which could be increased if required in near future.
He also appreciated efforts taken by Goa Aids Control Society to combat HIV and AIDS.
GIPA means the greater involvement of people living with HIV/AIDS and is derived from a principle embedded in the Paris AIDS Summit Declaration of 1994. The convention of GIPA organised by Goa State Aids Control Society is a first-of-its-kind in the state which aims to focus upon life of the people positive with HIV and reduction of stigma and discrimination.
Special tablets meant to support the outreach workers to efficiently serve the HIV+ve people around Goa were distributed at the hands of the chief minister. Secretary for Health Sudhir Mahajan spoke on the occasion.
Dean of Goa Medical College Dr Pradeep Naik, project director Dr Jose D’Sa, Dr Vandana Dhume, Manoj Pardesi, Umakant Sawant, Ravi Bushan and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has laid the foundation stone for the work of supplying raw water to the proposed 30 MLD water treatment plant at Tuem at Suke Kulem Dhargal organised by Water Resource Department at Dhargal Pernem.
The Chief Minister while addressing the gathering expressed happiness over the upcoming work of supplying raw water to proposed 30 MLD water treatment Plant at Tuem at Suke Kulem Dhargal and said that since water is a basic necessity of human being, this project will benefit the needs of Pernem taluka. Minister for Forests Rajendra Arlekar and Minister for Water Resources Dayanand Mandrekar also spoke on the occasion.
