The Governor Mridula Sinha, who is a brand ambassador for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, in her continuing efforts to achieve its objectives towards the mission, will address the mayor and corporators of the Corporation of City of Panaji and the chairpersons and councillors of the Mapusa, Ponda, Bicholim, Sankhali, Valpoi and Pernem Municipal Councils on May 23, at Raj Bhavan.
Subsequently on May 24, Sinha will have meeting with the chairpersons and councillors of Margao, Mormugao, Sanguem, Cuncolim, Canacona, Curchorem and Quepem Municipal Councils, at Raj Bhavan.
On earlier occasions, the Governor addressed different sections of the society regarding the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, such as voluntary organisations, Municipal chairpersons, sarpanchas, college principals, hoteliers, industrialists, real estate developers, media personalities, doctors/ hospitals authorities, religious heads, self-help group women leaders, headmasters, heads of departments of state/ central government and semi govt organisations, members of the co-ordination committees of five cities which she has adopted for being made model cities of cleanliness.
It may be recalled that the Governor has announced an award of Rs 1 lakh for the city among Panaji, Mapusa, Ponda, Margao and Vasco, which will be cleanest by December, 2016.
The Governor has been emphasising the need for creating greater awareness among the people about cleanliness and larger participation of the people in this national programme. During the above meetings, the Governor will seek suggestions from the invitees for achieving the objectives of this mission.
