Exuding confidence that the party will come to power with majority support and claiming that skeptic of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are only a minority, its state chief ministerial candidate Elvis Gomes on Wednesday said that AAP government will ensure that environment-friendly industries first present a blueprint on job creation.
Addressing the media for the first time after being anointed as the CM candidate and when asked about the strategy to ensure employment opportunities, Gomes said that the previous regimes did not take into account the employability of Goans.
Rubbishing the argument that Goa is not an industrial state, he said, “The previous governments did not provide transparency in governance and therefore the industries did not want to set up shop in state. If you provide a conducive atmosphere, who will not want to come to Goa?”
He further said that a single-window licencing system with highest weightage to a practical job-creation blue-print conducive to locally available human resource will be ensured.
Gomes said that AAP will re-focus the entire tourism sector to benefit the local stakeholders. “In the 1980s, all the locals were foxed into believing that 5-star hotels and hospitality projects would benefit them, the local fishermen, the toddy tappers, the farmers, local artisans, etc. But three decades later these local stakeholders have been completely ignored and ridden roughshod by the hotel lobby, transport lobby and big investors,” he stated.
He further said that political opponents are spreading rumours that AAP will stop benefits under all existing social welfare schemes. “Goans should not fall for this propaganda. AAP will not only continue the schemes but make them even better and ensure citizens get the benefits without being at the mercy of the politicians and MLAs,” he added.
