Working president of Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) Narayan Sawant said that the party believes in cultural greatness of Goa and “we are bound to make Marathi as state language.”
He was addressing a meeting in Mapusa wherein party workers and executive members of Mapusa constituency were present. The meeting was called to discuss about candidate for Mapusa for the upcoming assembly election. Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar, Appa Teli, Ramesh Pankar, Bharat Toraskar, president of Mapusa block were present among others.
Addressing the meeting, Sawant claimed that for the last 53 years the party has been representing the state in the assembly. Referring to the party symbol lion, he said, “The dormant lion in the hearts of people of Goa has awakened and its roars are echoing everywhere in the state.”
Party MLA and spokesperson Lavoo Mamledar alleged that “being in the government we have experienced how files moved by minister were held up and they were not allowed to exercise their powers. Therefore, we have decided to leave the alliance.”
On selection of candidate, he said that “our party has a parliamentary board which will decide who will be the candidate for the constituency. The board will study the candidate on the basis of background and take into account views of party workers of the constituency.”
During the meeting, interested candidates were asked to introduce themselves before the party workers and speak on their vision for Mapusa. The aspiring candidates, who spoke on the occasion, were former chairperson of MMC Armindo Braganza, Ashish Shirodkar, Prabhkar Vernekar, advocate Mahesh Rane, Shubhangi Vaigankar, Naresh Trivekar, Vinod Phadke.
