Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said on Friday that alliance with the MGP was very crucial to defeat the BJP in the forthcoming assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference here, Raut said that they have been patiently waiting, as “we strongly feel that the GSM, the Shiv Sena, the MGP will contest the elections in alliance to protect cultural identity of the state.
The Goa Suraksha Manch, led by rebel RSS leader Subhash Velingkar, and Shiv Sena have formed an alliance to contest the elections.
The Sena has agreed to contest from Pernem, Vasco, Saligao, Cuncolim and Thivim constituencies.
The Shiv Sena has so far declared Rajesh Dabholkar as the candidate for the Saligao constituency and Devendra Desai as its nominee for the Cuncolim constituency.
“We are ready to compromise on seats and are not dissatisfied for giving up on two seats as a pre-poll condition. It is a sacrifice to strengthen the coalition,” he said.
Strongly condemning Goa pradesh Congress committee vice-president M K Shaikh’s alleged defamatory statement against freedom fighter Veer Sawarkar, Raut said that the political situation in Goa was quite different and hence they were maintaining a studied calm.
Shiv Sena, a key constituent of the NDA, is the oldest ally of the BJP and also a junior partner at the Centre and in Maharashtra.
