MARGAO
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, on Tuesday, said that the proposed road from Tolleaband to Bolse Circle will be built soon even though there is an opposition to it, as the Chief Minister has cleared the file.
“The sewerage department’s service road, which is six-metre wide, would be extended and widened by using the Sonsoddo landfill site mud as the department has given permission, and as it is shown already on the ODP,’’ he added in the presence of Borda residents and the chairperson of the Margao Municipal Council.
Briefing the media at the site, Sardesai alleged that the Congress is trying to oppose it simply to obstruct the development.
“I am told that Fatorda block Congress will stage protest to oppose it on May 25,’’ he said.
Pascoal Noronha, a resident of Borda explained that the then Fatorda MLA Luis Alex Cardozo had proposed the parallel road to decongest the busy Borda road, however, a notification was issued to widen the existing Borda road to 20 metres.
“It was opposed and the locals met the then Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane, who proposed to reduce the width from 20 metres to 12 metres, and approved the parallel road. It was also shown on the ODP of Margao,” he added.
Interestingly, members of the RSS-Deep Karapurkar, Kiran Naik, Abhay Khaunte, showered praises on the Fatorda MLA for having taken the initiative for the construction of the parallel road to St Joaquim.
“We had petitioned the Chief Minister to take up the road construction. The Chief Minister agreed and a meeting was fixed. The Fatorda MLA was also called. We must thank Vijai Sardesai for his efforts,’’ said Deep Karapurkar.
Togetherness of RSS members and Sardesai has become a matter of discussion.
