VASCO: Sewerage connectivity in Dabolim, changing rooms and toilet facilities at Bogmalo beach, regularisation of houses, construction of new sub-district hospital building at Chicalim, beautification of Vaddem lake, playgrounds at Dabolim and Bogmalo, widening of culverts at Vaddem, beautification of Chicalim circle are some of the main issues in Dabolim constituency.
Dabolim was carved out by the bifurcation of Vasco and Cortalim constituencies and went to assembly polls first time in 2012. It constitutes five wards of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) and areas under two panchayats of Chicalim and Chicolna-Bogmalo.
The incumbent MLA Mauvin Godinho, who was last time elected on Congress ticket, will this time contest on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. Other candidates in the fray are Premanand Nanoskar of Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), Kritesh Gaonkar of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Vasant Naik of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Suresh Barve of Niz Goenkar besides Independent candidates Tara Kerkar, Kenneth Silveira and Preetam Keluskar.
Godinho is banking on works such as the Chicalim panchayat ghar built at a cost of Rs 13.50 crore and Joggers Park project worth Rs 6.40 crore. Construction work of grade separator estimated to cost Rs 45 crore, Sub-District Hospital estimated to cost Rs 47 crore, beautification of Vaddem Lake estimated to cost Rs 17 crore, playgrounds at Dabolim and Bogmalo, widening of culverts at Vaddem, widening and beautification of Chicalim circle, construction of hall at Chicalim, widening of Alto-Dabolim junction besides others are in progress.
Godinho said, “Having a modern state-of-the-art swimming pool at Chicalim, beautification and widening of rail over-bridge connecting NH-17B from Shantinagar to New-Vaddem, changing room/toilets at Bogmalo, setting up of garbage treatment plant for Dabolim, transfer of ownerships of flats to the occupants of Housing Board Colony, laying of underground electricity cables, expansion of paper bag industry, food joints along Chicalim highway in communidade land will be my priorities.”
MGP candidate Premanand Nanoskar said that he will not indulge in mudslinging adding people will exercise their power rightly as they are aware about the “performance” of the MLA. Congress candidate Francisco Nunes said that many works including construction of changing rooms and toilets at Bogmalo beach, grounds at Bogmalo and Dabolim are pending while major junctions at Chicalim, Dabolim and Alto Dabolim are neglected.
“My priority will be to have sewerage connectivity in densely populated areas of New-Vaddem and provide toilets to the occupants of housing board colonies,” informed Nunes.
NCP candidate Gaonkar said that he wants to make Dabolim a model constituency in the state adding, “Retaining Dabolim as international airport besides providing all amenities and creating infrastructure facilities in the nooks and corner of Dabolim constituency will be my priority.”
AAP candidate Vasant Naik is also making efforts to win the election with the support of his workers, visiting and explaining the aim of his party to work for the interest of common man.
Independent candidates also claimed that they have a vision for Dabolim constituency and are confident of resolving all the issues faced by the people.
