CALANGUTE: Calangute has been in quest for solutions to traffic woes. Perennial traffic congestion in the beach belt has become a major issue of infrastructure for the voters.
Barring a few points, roads across the villages of Arpora, Parra, Calangute and Candolim, the constituency is in need of an overhaul of design with road widening on majority of the stretches and bus shelters and parking spaces.
In Candolim a store owner opined that the main road connecting the beach belt is the most chaotic.
He said, “You can see it for yourself; during this time of the season which we consider as a fair season, the traffic chaos is irritating. It takes more than half an hour to travel just two kilometres. One might as well walk that distance if it is only about going to the next spot instead of driving or riding.”
Calangute, which has made its mark as an international tourist destination, cries for better infrastructure at the beachfront.
A local trader said that many a times it is the restlessness of the people that makes matters worst. NT
