Anyay Rahit Zindagi (ARZ), an NGO has made an appeal to political parties ahead of the assembly polls to take up the issue and subsequent measures to eradicate prostitution in the state.
Arz is working towards combating human trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) and is the nodal NGO of integrated anti human trafficking unit of the Goa Police.
According to ARZ, Goa is a major destination for human trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation wherein women and children from Goa and different states of India are sexually exploited in Goa. Over a period of time Goa has developed as a market for sex trade, says ARZ.
In order to control human trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation in Goa, ARZ has listed a charter of demands and appealed to political parties to include it in their manifesto. Which are, appoint full time police officers at the anti human trafficking police unit to exclusively work on human trafficking cases. Establish special court for trial of traffickers.
Appoint special prosecutors to handle cases of trafficking. Legislate strict laws to prevent cross massage. Set up sexual harassment committee in all the hotels, massage parlors, casinos and clubs. Review prabhat scheme for the rehabilitation of sex workers. Improve living conditions at the government protective home, Merces ARZ has said.
