PANAJI: To attack the Narendra Modi-led central government on the alleged failure to perform and fulfil the promises made to the people of the country on the eve of the 2014 parliamentary elections, the Congress party, on Thursday, launched an audio-visual campaign with the theme ‘Ab ki baar barbad ho gaye yaar.’

Addressing the media at the Congress House in Panaji, All India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi said that in the two years of the Modi-led government, the country has not witnessed any progress, and the various parameters indicate to the central government’s failures.

She said, “Where should we begin? Black money, unemployment, inflation or women empowerment? This government has failed on all the fronts. The Narendra Modi government has completed 2 years, and nothing new has happened.”

Chaturvedi further said that the Modi government should stop re-packaging and re-branding the Congress-led UPA government schemes.

Stating that Modi had promised 2 crore jobs every year during his period of governance, she said that the government was successful in creating only 1, 30,000 jobs in the 2 years of the tenure.

The Modi government has been speaking about skill development but contrary to the demand placed by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship for Rs 8,000 crore, the government allocated only Rs 1,200 crore, she claimed.

She said that under the Make in India campaign, Modi has been claiming increase of industrial production and increase in foreign direct investments, however, the production is now at the lowest of 0.1 per cent compared to the 3 per cent during the Congress-led UPA-II government.

Chaturvedi, taking a dig at the claim of the BJP- led government of being friendly to the farmers, stated that while the rural economy is afflicted due to the lack of rainfall and the state governments have been demanding support packages, only 25 per cent of the Rs 40,000 crores has been provided to the states.

Stating that the Congress party will ensure inclusive development and not just sloganeering of ‘Sabka saath sabka vikas,’ she said that the party is not looking at a wave engineered by a single face, but convincing the people that the Congress government will work beyond the barriers of caste and religion.

Commenting on the performance of the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, the AICC spokesperson, citing a media report, said that  by including private players in the sub-committee on defence, the Defence Minister has depicted his lack of integrity.

He has failed tremendously and not been able to face various challenges, she added.

Stating that alliances in the future will be only with the like-minded parties, Chaturvedi said that no opportunistic alliances will be formed by the party.
