ormugao police have registered offences against two groups for allegedly taking out rallies after conclusion of polling at Headland-Sada, on late Saturday night.
Police informed that the workers of Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party allegedly took out two separate rallies which later led to a clash. Police said that a Congress worker was allegedly assaulted by BJP workers which sparked off tension at Headland-Sada.
In this connection, Mormugao police have registered two separate offences against the two rival groups. The police also have registered an offence under Section 188 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) for forming unlawful assembly and also hurting a person.
Mormugao police have issued show cause notices under Section 149 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) as why action should not be taken against the groups who took out rallies and formed unlawful assemblies.
Tension prevailed at Headland-Sada due to the clash between the two groups. Superintendent of Police, South, Chandan Choudhary visited Headland-Sada and took stock of the situation. Heavy police force was deployed to avoid further escalation of the situation.
Earlier, the police cordoned off the house of Suraj alias Balan Chodankar at Headland-Sada which led to tense moments in and around the vicinity.
Meanwhile, Verna police have registered an offence under Sections 326, 504, 506 (ii) readwith 34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) in connection with an alleged assault case reported at Birla-Zuarinagar on Saturday evening.
Verna police have disclosed that they have booked offences against S Rajvy alias Kitlya, Shekappa Gauda and Rajesh for allegedly assaulting Bhimsi Udhar, following the election at Birla-Zuarinagar. The alleged accused are reported to be absconding. Verna police are further investigating the case.
