VALPOI: A new 3.4 km road, connecting Zarme and Saleli, will be a boon to the residents of Mauxi village panchayat area in Sattari. This was a long-pending demand of the locals. This alternative road is expected to shorten the travelling distance. According to a source at Mauxi village panchayat, the state government has taken initiative by sanctioning Rs 4.20 crore for constructing a road connecting the two villages.
Presently, one has to travel from Mauxi village and then through Valpoi town to reach Honda. The new road extending up to Saleli will connect Valpoi-Panaji highway reducing the distance.
Zarme panch member Datta Gawas said, “The new road is required since currently we have to travel through Valpoi town where the roads get congested during the peak hours. This road connecting the two localities will make travel experience less harrowing.”
Once the new road is constructed the distance between the two localities will reduce by 6.5 kilometer. “The current route is at least 18 kilometres to reach Honda. The new road will also help reduce traffic on the Valpoi-Panaji highway till Saleli junction,” said Datta.
Meanwhile, locals from Mauxi village panchayat area have welcomed the move of the village panchayat and are hoping that the road will be completed before commencement of monsoon.
