Rs 7.78-crore cheating case: 2 accused claim to be victims

PANAJI: Aamol Shah and Ajay Prabhudessai of ‘Evolve Consultancy’ firm arrested by the Economic Offences Cell (EOC) of Goa police on charges of  cheating over 100 investors to the tune of around Rs 7.78 crores have claimed be victims, the police have said.

A senior police officer informed that the accused claimed that they were employees in the firm and had also invested their money in investment scheme of the firm.

According to the police, the main accused is Rajesh Kamble, who has reportedly fled to Cyprus while his wife Vidhya has been arrested by Pune police in a similar offence there, and is currently in judicial custody.

The Goa police are in process to seek her custody.  Shah and Prabhudessai, both were arrested by the Pune police. Last week, the Goa police took their custody. Their police remand has been extended by 7 more days.

Earlier this month, the EOC had registered an offence under cheating, criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust and under the Goa Protection of Interest of Depositors (in financial establishments) Act.

Rajesh, his wife Vidhya, Shah and Prabhudessai, all from Evolve Consultancy, Pune have been named as  accused in the case.

The firm in question had opened office in Margao in 2012 which was reportedly closed down in 2016. The firm had its main office in Pune. The firm was not having any permission to accept deposits or investments nor was a non-banking financial company, the police have said.
