The Union Heavy Industries Minister Anant Geete, on Friday, claimed that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government-led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been successful in plugging the leakages in transfer of subsidies to the beneficiaries, and has saved Rs 36,000 crore.
To celebrate two years in power, the central government-led by Modi has launched a campaign to publicise its achievements.
Prime Minister Modi has said ‘Mera desh badal raha hai, aage badh raha hai.’
Addressing the media on the government’s achievements in the state, Geete said that the government has saved Rs 36,000 crore on leakage of subsidies by implementing the direct benefit transfer (DBT) using the Adhaar card.
He further informed that the government has scrapped over 3.5 crore bogus ration cards across the country.
Geete said that six of the eleven sick industries under Heavy Industries Ministry have been closed down by successfully settling the workers.
He said that the government has saved around Rs 4,000 crore that was being spent only to pay the salaries of the employees without any returns.
However, he said that he is in talks with the Defence Ministry for the revival of Tungabhadra Steel Products Ltd, which comes under his ministry.
“The government is working on revival of another two sick industries, the Nepa Mills Ltd and the Scooters India Ltd, while another two public sector units, Triveni Structurals Ltd and Tyre Corporation of India Ltd, are on way to liquidation,” he added.
Geete further informed that the government of India has recently signed two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with Luxembourg and Russia for acquisition of technology and exploring opportunities under the ‘Make in India’ scheme.
Admitting that the government has failed to achieve the target of 2 crore job creation during its two years in power, he said that with the initiatives such as ‘Make in India’, ‘Skill India’, ‘Startup India’ alongwith with foreign direct investments (FDI), the promise would be fulfilled.
FDI agreements worth Rs 3 lakh crore were signed during the 7 days of ‘Make in India’ week programme in Mumbai in April this year, he added.
