The Mapusa Municipal Council, on Friday, decided to undertake valuation of immovable property owned by it.
During an ordinary meeting, the council resolved to appoint a valuer, for carrying out the valuation process.
The decision was taken following a letter from Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA), asking the council to appoint a valuer. The GSUDA has also listed valuers.
After some discussion, it was unanimously resolved to appoint architect Shivram Dhuri as the valuer. The council unanimously resolved to hike allowances of daily wage workers engaged in segregation of garbage at the Assagao site, from Rs 350 to Rs 1,000.
Addressing the council, chairperson Sandip Falari said, “By the time, the collected garbage reaches the segregation point at Assagao, it is already decomposing and it is very difficult to segregate it hence there is a need to provide higher wages to the workers.”
The council also resolved to increase washing allowance and rain wear allowance by Rs 200 for the permanent employees.
Another significant resolution that was passed by the council is to implement the amended Goa Non-biodegradable Garbage (Control) Act, 1996, which has now empowered the council to impose penalty on those dumping garbage/depositing in public drain, roads and places open to public.
The council has resolved to install CCTV cameras at some sites to keep a check on the offenders.
Taking into consideration, a GSUDA letter seeking allotment of space for town level federation (TLF) to open city livelihood centre (CLC), the council resolved to allot second floor of Mapusa fish and meat market for the same.
The council also decided to provide a land for establishing a common facility for crematorium, burial of bodies of the people belonging to all religions including non-believers at Cunchelim.
Under Mapusa ODP, an area of 20,000 has been earmarked for establishing the common facility, and the PDA is currently in process of acquiring the land.
When councillor Rajsingh Rane inquired about the follow up on octroi issue, Falari informed that a meeting was held with Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar in this regard and he has assured that unpaid octroi revenue to the tune of Rs 1.12 crore will be paid by June 1.
The council also decided to take action against those who have erected temporary shops on the vacant place in front of Café Corner. The issue was raised by Tople.
