Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has greeted the people of the state on the occasion of Goa Statehood Day.
The Chief Minister in his message has said, “On the occasion of the 29th Statehood Day, I extend my personal greetings and compliments to the people of Goa. Since the attainment of statehood in 1987, our small but beautiful state has made rapid strides in all developmental spheres and emerged as one of the most developed and fastest growing states in India, with socio-economic indicators far better than the national average.
“My government took over in a situation where Goa was facing a tough time financially. However, with dedication and determination we have managed to tide over it without comprising on the developmental commitments that we had made to the people of Goa. In the past four years my government has focused on improving both the social and physical infrastructure of the state,” he said.
“Our emphasis has been on inclusive development that would give our people the environment and tools to actualise and manifest their individual potential for the collective good.
“As we move forward and look to the future, it will be our endeavour to consolidate and bolster our traditional strengths in the areas of tourism, mining, agriculture and fisheries while building the requisite social capital to fully harness opportunities presented by new-age industries such as IT and electronics,” he maintained.
“Our people must enjoy a high standard of living and an excellent quality of life. Only then can development be meaningful and beneficial. We are committed to ensuring that Goa’s present and future development is sustainable and not in conflict with nature. We must not lose sight of what defines us especially since it is our unique Goenkarponn which is the driving force behind our ethos of communal harmony and peace and our status as an economically and socially advanced state,” he said.
“I appeal to all my fellow citizens to join hands with us so that we can achieve the vision of a strong, vibrant and multi-cultural Goa,” he added.
