CM to visit Sonsoddo dumpsite today

SALIGAO: Taking  seriousness of the gigantic  garbage at Sonsoddo, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday assured TCP Minister Vijay Sardesai that he would visit the garbage dumpsite  in Margao on Tuesday afternoon  to  take stock of the enormity of the situation there.

During his visit to the Saligao garbage plant along with cabinet colleagues, Parrikar told GSIDC officials to use the same machinery that has been used to clear  garbage in Panaji.

The GSIDC officials were instructed  to get rid of the  garbage from the Sonsoddo site.

Sardesai said that his main priority was  to get the mountainous  garbage at Sonsoddo removed.

Sardesai assured Parrikar that he would get  a resolution adopted by the Margao municipality for the work to start at the earliest at the site.

The GSIDC officials informed Parrikar and Sardesai that work on screening of  garbage using remediation  means could begin  from first   week of April and that it would take at least two months. The officials urged the government not to allow dumping of fresh garbage  at the site.

Sardesai said that he needed to build confidence of the people who  suffer due to the garbage at  Sonsoddo.

“The confidence will be gained only when the work starts at the site,” he asserted. NT
