In view of the Shigmo float parade slated on Sunday, Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) has asked the contractor to clear all the debris which is dumped on the road along the old Asilo Hospital.
The float parade will start from Rastroli temple near Alankar temple and then proceed towards communidade hall and take turn towards old Asilo hospital and from then proceed towards taxi stand and later Gandhi Circle and conclude.
As part of ongoing work of beautification towards Tar side, Goa State Urban Development Agency’s contractor has started construction of drainage along the old Asilo hospital and digging work was carried out along the road. As a result heaps of mud and debris has been kept along the road which is part of the route of Shigmo parade.
The road stretch from old Asilo hospital till the chapel is narrow and due to ongoing work, it has further narrowed which can create problem for the floats and also for people who would be standing along the route to watch the parade hence the Shigmo committee had approached the Mapusa Municipality requesting it to clear the road before the parade.
President of Mapusa Shigmotsav Mohan Kanekar said, “We are happy that compared to last year the road is in a very good condition. There was a little concern over the digging work which was going on at old Asilo hospital wherein mud is dumped along the road hence we had requested MMC chairperson Sandip Falari to take up necessary measures so that during the float parade no inconvenience is caused to the people who would be coming and the floats would also move smoothly and he has assured to do the needful.”
When contacted, Falari informed, “I have inspected the entire route and have noticed that GSUDA is undertaking work at old Asilo and mud is lying on the road. In this regard, I have already spoken to the concerned officials and have directed them to stop the work for next two days that is on Saturday and Sunday and to clear the entire mud which is lying on the road.”
