CANACONA: The Loliem-Polem gram sabha which was held on Sunday was attended by over hundred villagers. The gram sabha passed a resolution that the panchayat secretary be transferred within 8 days, after the secretary skipped reading the minutes of the extraordinary gram sabha relating to the proposed IIT at Bhagvati plateau, Loliem.
The villagers demanded that the same minutes be read in toto, but the sarpanch said that if the minutes are not prepared, they may not be presented and so can be read for the next meeting.
During the meeting a congratulatory motion was passed congratulating and wishing the newly elected Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes. The MLA on his part assured the village panchayat all help as and when required.
The members said that till the issues pending in the panchayat are solved, no new issues must be taken up. An explanation was sought by the seven members who were present for the extraordinary meeting and to whom cases were filed by the sarpanch. The sarpanch could not give any explanation and the seven members condemned the attitude of the sarpanch who they said used his powers wrongly to file cases against them.
Meanwhile, the gram sabha meeting of Agonda village panchayat was not held due to want of quorum as only 6 villagers were present. The gram sabha will be held at a later date.
