Over two years after the double murder rocked Vasco, the principal district and session’s judge South Goa Desmond Costa on Monday convicted Pratima Naik for killing her mother-in-law Usha Naik and sister-in-law Neha Naik.
The matter is posted for hearing arguments on the point of sentence on March 29. Pratima is convicted under sections 328, 380, 302 read with Section 34 of IPC.
Pratima had allegedly drugged the two before strangulating Usha with a nylon rope and smothering Neha with a pillow on January 31, 2015. Police had detained her and after long interrogation she was arrested along with Abhijit Korgaonkar however he had turned approver in the case.
Pratima was arrested by Vasco police over contradictions in her statements. For instance, she had told police that the burglars who had committed the murders had blinded her with chilli powder, but her eye test had ruled out any such attack, said sources.
According to prosecution, Pratima had robbed their gold ornaments.
