The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Goa unit has decided to felicitate its national president Amit Shah on April 9, at a public meeting to be held on Campal ground.

State president of BJP Vinay Tendulkar Tuesday said that under Amit Shah’s leadership, the party has managed to form government in four of the five states, which went to assembly polls recently and, therefore, on behalf of the Goa unit, it has been decided to felicitate him on April 9.

“We are going to felicitate our national president for leading the party and forming BJP-led government in four states which includes Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Manipur,” Tendulkar said. He said that the party is finalising the plan to organise the public meeting on April 9 and added that the party is expecting a crowd of over 30,000 people.

Tendulkar told this daily that Union minister Nitin Gadkari, who is also Goa  in-charge of the party, would be present for the function. He said that the party is still finalising the presence of other dignitaries for the function. This would be Shah’s first visit to Goa after the February 4 legislative assembly election.

It may be recalled that even after finishing second in Goa assembly election with 13 seats, BJP managed to form government under the leadership of Manohar Parrikar after stitching up an alliance with regional parties like Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, Goa Forward Party besides three Independent legislators.

On the other hand, Congress failed to bring the non-BJP MLAs into its fold to form government in the state, even though it had won 17 seats. They also lost their two-time Valpoi MLA, Vishwajit Rane, who resigned on March 16 and is likely to be inducted into the state cabinet.
