Two liquor thieves run out of luck

PANAJI: Two foreigners  who  reportedly committed theft of two alcohol bottles worth around Rs 22,000 from a city store, have been identified. The accused S Maluk  and Simon K, both are from Jordan.

Last week the two accused were arrested in Goa by the Pune police in connection with a jewellery theft case there. Their photographs had been  published in a newspaper which led to their link to the alcohol bottles theft case.

A team from the Panaji police station is in Pune to obtain custody of the two accused in the case.

The police said the incident was reported on March 7 at Magsons store, Campal, Panaji and a complaint in this regard was lodged by Kedar Talaulikar, HR and administration  manager.

Referring to the complaint, the police said that one Scotch whisky bottle worth Rs 20,500 and a wine bottle worth Rs 1600 that had been  displayed in rack for sale at the store were  stolen by the two accused who appeared to be foreigners.

Subsequently a staffer of the store noticed that bottles were missing and went to the counter to verify if they had been sold. However, upon checking, it was noticed that the said bottles had  not been sold,   the police said.

Subsequently CCTV footage of the store was checked to verify. The two accused were seen in CCTV footage while committing the theft, the police said.

The accused had lifted the bottles from the store, concealing them  in their T-shirts and without making payments for the same, the police said.

The police said the complainant noticed the photographs of the two accused in the newspaper who were arrested from Goa by the Pune police in connection with a theft case which led to their identification.
