PANAJI: Stating that former Valpoi MLA Vishwajeet Rane’s hunger for power led to him joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Leader of the Opposition Chandrakant ‘Babu’ Kavlekar on Thursday said that Rane has let his voters down by taking this decision.
“Short-term happiness is all around him but he will soon have to go through long-term sorrow,” said Kavlekar.
He said that by pulling Rane to its side, the BJP has not achieved anything and if it thinks that by turning the mandate, it has conquered politics then it is an illusion.
“I am sure Rane will one day regret joining BJP and apologise to the Congress party,” he said.
Kavlekar said that majority of people from Valpoi constituency are against his decision of resigning from Congress and joining BJP. He said that people are anguished and they will express their anger by voting him out in the by-election
“Former Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar had won 2012 state assembly election with a thumping majority but he had to face defeat with a margin of over 7,000 votes in 2017. Wait and watch, Rane’s story will be no different from that of Parsekar,” said Kavlekar.
He said that the process to identify a candidate to field against Rane in the by-election is in final stage.
