Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari Sunday announced the construction of an electric ropeway from the Mormugao port to Mopa in order to facilitate tourists to travel from the Dabolim airport to the proposed international airport at Mopa in Pernem taluka. Gadkari said that the proposal is being examined by the central government.

Addressing a BJP rally, which was organised in Panaji to felicitate the party’s national president Amit Shah and Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for managing to form an alliance with regional parties to form government in Goa, Gadkari, who is also the in-charge of Goa BJP affairs, said that the central government has decided to grant Rs 25 lakh subsidy and a loan under MUDRA scheme to state fishermen in order to buy high capacity trawlers, which will be able to go beyond 11 nautical miles in sea and will help increase fish catch by five per cent in Goa.

Gadkari said that the proposed fishing terminal for Goan fishermen which is worth of Rs 104 crore will change the life of the community. He said that after dredging of rivers Mandovi and Zuari, which have been declared as river navigation routes, the government has also announced to give grants-in-aid to start passengers boats.

The Union Minister also expressed confidence that the Goa-Mumbai national highway, which will be a cement concrete road, would be inaugurated by December 2018 and the first phase work of the international airport at Mopa will be completed by 2018.
