PANAJI: The alienation of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar from the local media reached a full circle on Friday, with Parrikar stating that conversing of the issues of state importance with the pressmen does not result in any solutions, but on the contrary disrupts execution of solutions to these issues.
The Chief Minister, speaking during a city function, on the occasion of the 126th birth anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar, said that discussing such issues with the media only results in coming out with multiple options, thus making it further difficult to resolve the issues, especially challenging issues.
“Such discussions with the pressmen sometimes turn into spoilers,” Parrikar observed, stating that when earlier in the morning, the media questioned him on certain issues he counter-questioned them as to whether they wanted the issues to reach the logical end, or fail in their execution.
“I further told them, if you want these issues to reach their logical end then do not discuss them in news,” he stated, indicating that the media carries different version of the news and complicates the things.
Parrikar also maintained that the Kashmir issue was the main reason for his return to Goa by relinquishing his post as the defence minister. “I was under constant pressure in the national capital, and finally understood that Delhi was not my arena of work,” he added, observing that for resolving the Kashmir issue a concrete, long-term policy is needed.
The Chief Minister also named Chhatrapati Shivaji, the Maratha king as his Guru. “I try to imbibe his qualities as much as I can, but that does not mean that I can be cent per cent like him,” he said.
