Vishwa Hindu Parishad general secretary (central) Acharya Radhakrishna Manori on Sunday said the VHP was capable of imposing a total ban on cow slaughter and beef consumption in Goa within next two years, without involving  the state government.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the ‘sankalp sabha’ held  by Goa unit of the VHP at Brahmasthal Sansthan Pandurangwadi at Baina, Manori said that two wings of the VHP  –  Bajrang Dal and Durga Vahini – would  work to stop cow slaughter in Goa.

“Like elsewhere in the country, we have been awakening the people of Goa too over cow slaughter and beef eating. We will have to wait for at least two years for workers of the Bajrang Dal and the Durga Vahini to  take an initiative for  stopping cow slaughter in this state,” the Acharya  said.

He, however, clarified that the VHP would not take help of the state government to stop cow slaughter and beef consumption as  activists of the Bajrang Dal and the Durga Vahini were capable enough to put an end to these things.

“It is the duty of Hindus to stop cow slaughter as they worship the animal as mother. We strongly profess ‘dharma raksha’ which also includes ‘gau raksha’,”  Manori said adding that  the VHP was  not demanding anything from the state government, as the organisation was capable of stopping cow slaughter and beef eating through the Bajrang Dal and the Durga Vahini.

The ‘sankalp sabha’ was held as part of an all-India campaign for constructing Shree Ram Mandir at Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram.

Addressing the people at the ‘sabha’ as a key speaker, Manori said that nobody can stop the VHP from constructing the Mandir at Ayodhya.

“The agitation launched by the VHP for constructing Ram Mandir at  Ayodhya has attracted the attention of the world,” Manori claimed adding that  ‘sants’ have played a key role in creating
awareness amongst the Hindus on  the need for constructing the temple.

The ‘sabha’ was attended by Pradnya Bharati, Parampujya Mahatmarajya Chaitanya Maharaj, VHP Goa unit president Santosh Mahanandu, VHP Mormugao unit president Shrikant Dhargalkar, Madhukar Dixit, Kapil Betgiri, Dilip Kajale, Nitin Faldessai, Eknath Naik and others.

Earlier, artistes of the Damodar Bogdeshwar Dindi Group of Bodga led by renowned dindi and bhajani artiste Babu Gadekar took out a procession from the Ravindra Bhavan, Baina to Brahmasthal Sansthan Pandurangwadi at Baina as part of the ‘sabha’.
