Mapusa JMFC court on Friday remanded Kenneth Upwegha (41), a Nigerian, arrested on alleged charges of raping a local woman, to 15-day judicial custody.
It may be recalled that on Saturday evening, a 31-year-old local woman was travelling towards Alva Mar hall in Parra on her bike when she was waved down by two Nigerians. When she halted, one of the two men allegedly forcefully sat on her bike asking her at knife point to travel to his room. The frightened woman rode to his room at Assagao where the Nigerian allegedly raped her.
During investigation, Mapusa police identified the Nigerian, and through information from reliable sources that the Nigerian has left for Mumbai, a team of Mapusa police, on Monday, with the help of Mumbai railway police arrested the accused who was trying to escape. The medical report of the victim is positive confirming that she was sexually assaulted. NT
