Cracking down on irregularities, Minister for Fisheries and Water Resources Vinod Palyekar on Wednesday directed officials of the directorate of fisheries to clear the fishing jetty at Malim-Betim off illegal stalls of migrants, who have encroached upon the government land to put them up.

Palyekar also asked the officials to submit a white paper by May 8 on revenue generated by the fisheries department in the last five years by leasing out the jetty/property.

The minister has issued the directions after he along with officials of the fisheries department inspected the fishing jetty on Wednesday afternoon.

The surprise visit came after several oral complaints had been made to Palyekar against the irregularities at the jetty.

“We have found during the inspection that the land is being misused and encroached upon to put up the stalls,” Palyekar said.

After the inspection, the Fisheries Minister directed the officials of his department to clear all encroachments off jetty area, warning the officials of strict action if they fail to take carry out his instructions.
