VASCO: Verna police on Sunday arrested two youth for impersonation during the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)-UG being conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, at the Sancoale centre. The two youth were arrested by the police for appearing and answering the test for some other candidates.
The culprits are cooling their heels in police lockup at the Verna police station, following a complaint filed by principal of Mount Litera Primary Zee School at Sancoale where the examination was being conducted.
As per information available from the Verna police, the complaint in this regard has been lodged by Sandhya Venkatesh stating that the accused persons namely Randhir Chandrabushan Singh and Diwakar Kumar Shailendara Pra, both natives of Bihar, impersonated Ruturaj Kavelkar, native of Kolhapur in Maharashtra, and Sandesh Gajanan Mhatre, thereby cheating the CBSE, Delhi.
Both the accused have been placed under arrest under Sections 419, 420, 511 read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) following Supreme Court guidelines, as both the accused persons cheated the CBSE by impersonating and attempting to answer the test on behalf of genuine candidates.
Sources in the Verna police said that they suspect a big racket in which many could be involved in impersonating and answering NEET on behalf of others.
According to the police investigation, before the test, Kavelkar was approached by a person, who offered to clear the test on his behalf in return for monetary gain. However, Kavelkar refused the offer and decided to answer the NEET on his own. Due to some misunderstanding within the impersonating racket team, Randhir Singh appeared for the test with a fake hall ticket issued in the name of Kavelkar and was consequently caught.
Police sub-inspector Raghoba Kamat is further investigating into the case under the supervision of police inspector Uday Parab.
