Goa Dairy Utkarsh panel, headed by Madhav Sahakari, has won the election held to elect new board of directors (BoD) of Goa Dairy.
Eleven members from the Goa Dairy Utkarsh panel and one Aselmo Furtado from opposition have been elected to the board, according to the results declared on Monday.
Out of the total 1,902 votes, Utkarsh panel polled 1,146 votes, while Goa Dairy Bachav panel polled 752 votes. Four votes were declared as invalid, said returning officer Satish Sawant.
Eleven members, who got elected from the Goa Dairy Utkarsh panel include Madhav Sahakari (117 votes), Baburao Fotto Dessai (108 votes), Gurudas Parab (105 votes), Vithoba Dessai (100 votes), Rajesh Phaldesai (94 votes), Ajay Dessai (92 votes), Dhanananjay Dessai (90 votes), Babu Komarpant (90 votes), Vijaykumar Patil (90 votes), Naresh Malik (89 votes) and Rajendra Sawal (89 votes). Aselmo Furtado from the Goa Dairy Bachav panel got 84 votes against 82 to Ulhas Sinari of the Utkarsh panel. Aselmo got elected by a margin of just two votes.
Post declaration of the result, Madhav Sahakari said that the new panel will focus on taking Goa Dairy’s local milk production up to 1 lakh litres per day within two years.
At present, Goa Dairy has a local production of around 65,000 litres per day. Within a year, the new board will focus on taking the production up to 75 to 85 thousand litres per day, Sahakari said. He also said that Goa Dairy will not hike the prices of milk and try to provide better services to the farmers associated with it.
Goa Dairy has around 165 societies associated with it and on the voting day, representatives of all the 165 societies cast their vote.
