The demolition of the beef and pork shops at Mapusa market entered the second day as the MMC started the demolition drive on Tuesday to demolish the remaining structure.
On Monday late evening the demolition was carried out using two JCBs in the presence of Mapusa municipality chairperson Rohan Kavlekar, chief officer Clen Madeira, administrative cum accounts officer Bhanudas Naik, Municipal engineer Hussain Shah Mujzar, municipal engineer II Venkatesh Sawant and other municipal staff. The demolition went on till early Tuesday morning where almost 75% of the ground plus one floor structure was demolished.
Meanwhile the Mapusa Municipal council has started the work of constructing a temporary structure which is taken up on a war footing by the council.
The chief officer of Mapusa municipality Clen Madeira said that “on the first day we have demolished a major portion of the structure as work continued till early Tuesday morning and again in the night we will start the demolition of the remaining portion”.
He further said that he has asked his engineering team to take up the work of constructing shops on a war footing so that the beef and pork shop owners do not face any inconvenience.
