MARGAO: Taking a serious note of increasing number of accidents and crimes in his constituency, Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro, on Saturday, demanded a separate police station and a traffic cell for Navelim constituency.
He was speaking to media after conducting an inspection in Rawalfond area of Navelim in the presence of Deputy Superintendent of Police (traffic) for adopting measures in view of road mishaps.
“Accidents have increased in the last few days here. I have written to the district Collector to convene a meeting with the National Highways Authority of India, traffic police, PWD roads and police officials to discuss measures to curb accidents. There are no signals at crucial spots in Navelim. I have also demanded a separate police station and a separate traffic cell for Navelim,’’ he said, adding that a proposal will be submitted to the district collector on Monday and later to the government.
He also expressed the need for installing CCTV cameras in view of hit-and-run cases.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Probodh Shirwaikar said that the PWD has been requested to install rumblers and road dividers in Rawalfond area.
